Apart from his duty as head of VW's works council, Osterloh plays an important role at the carmaker because he sits both on the supervisory board and its six-member steering committee, along with Wendelin Wiedeking, chief executive at Porsche. Osterloh also has considerable say on personnel decisions, and he helped unseat Bernd Pischetsrieder as chief executive at the end of 2006.
