I have watched Liza Minnelli's 1972 performance of "I Gotcha" (from Liza with a 'Z' , choreographed by Bob Fosse) more times than I care to enumerate, but on a recent viewing I noticed a few things I hadn't seen before. Almost two minutes into the clip, I found myself asking, "Wait, did Liza just do the Tootsie Roll?" The answer is yes. Then she does The Matrix, Da Butt, and the most spastic...

Source : Slog (subscribe)

Explore : Cinema, Directors

... one final order of business: The collected output of late ’80s Swedish pop band/apparent Bob Fosse fetishists All That Jazz. Never heard of them? Me neither. Or I hadn’t, anyway, before a reader named Paul Cox wrote in to request a CGW! entry devoted to the band. I normally don’t bother with requests, for the simple reason that keeping up with them can overwhelm a series, but Paul’s e-mail...

Source : Popdose (subscribe)

Explore : Artists, Cinema, Directors, Music, Rhythm and Blues

It falls to the dance arranger to support the movement with music, so Howard worked not just with the late Bob Fosse, the director and choreographer of Chicago, but also with Gower Champion, Danny Daniels and Baayork Lee. On the Gershwin-scored dance-heavy show, Crazy For You, whose London run starred Ruthie Henshall, Howard once again provided both incidental music and dance arrangements, winning...

Source : Times Online (subscribe)

Explore : Cinema, Directors

A delightful musical remake of a 1942 Rosalind Russell film of the same name. The story is mostly situational, but the musical numbers choreographed by Bob Fosse are striking and cast is first-rate.
