Maybe Senator Feingold would actually make money before his senate career comes to an end if someone else was handling the investments. While I think Lohman's examples are hardly as terrible as he imagines (both Pelosi and Sensenbrenner would probably continue to vote the same way) , I have a hard time coming up with any criticisms of the plan other than I think it impractical to include the state legislature. A few points Sanders gets rightfully upset over: While 90% of Americans took a pay cut in 2005, the top 1% saw their average income increase by $4.4 million in one year. The top 1% have a higher income than 150,000,000 Americans combined. While 400,000 American kids couldn't afford to go to college, the richest of the rich were spending an average of $182,000 in one year on watches. And the U.S. has a higher rate of children in poverty than any other country in the world. 18% of American children, almost 1/5, are living in poverty. European countries average 5% or less. The gap is widening between the rich and the rest as George Bush and John McCain increase tax cuts to the richest Americans and target eliminating the middle class by eliminating their jobs and raising the cost of living through failed and arrogant policies.
