<title>Chinese Oversea Corps :: The Home of Chinese Learners (Chinalyst - China blogs in English)</title>
      <link>http://www.wikio.com/search/Chen+Jin?rinfoid=68353777</link>
<description>In the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Game, some faces attracted people’s attention. They are Chinese, but not walking in the Chinese team. These people are called Oversea Corps (海外兵团). Basically, they are expat of China who are serving other nations’ teams. Different from Michelle Kwan or Nastia Liukin, who were born or raised in their current country, the Oversea Corps only refer to the people who immigrated and naturalized after they have been the top athletes in their fields. In China, the rise of Oversea Corps had once threatened the teams of some sports. For example, the Singapore female table tennis team are completely consisted by expat of Chinese players. The Singapore team didn’t win the gold medal, but did put a strong hurdle on the road of Chinese team. The worst nightmare for Chinese table tennis team was in 1994, former Chinese player He Zhili beat Deng Yaping in the female tennis single, and took the gold medal for Japan in the Asian Games. Since Deng is a household name in China, the defeat brought a strong mental trauma to many Chinese people. Even today, among the top 20 table tennis players, 3 male and 10 female are from Oversea Corps. Today, the meaning of Oversea Corps is expanded to include the coaches. Liang Chow (the coach of Shawn Johnson) and Lang Ping (the head coach of US female volleyball team) are the two famous ones. Li Mao, a badminton coach, nurtured several world champions for South Korea and Malaysia. His student, Li Zongwei, also won a silver medal for Malaysia in this Olympic Game. It is the only medal the country achieved up to now in Beijing. Another field is diving, a traditional Chinese gold mine. Tong Hui and Wang Tongxiang, now coaching Australia, Chen Wen, working for British team, and Ma Jin, directing Mexico diving team, have all helped or are helping their current hosting country to become strong challengers in the sport dominated by China.</description>
