What, you expected Texas here? Since the Top 7 can rather easily be guessed, suppose we should explain why Texas, Missouri and Kansas aren’t included. Texas has a QB controversy on a low simmer, a much tougher schedule than last year, no stud to replace RB Jamaal Charles, a depleted group of WRs, and a [...]

Training Camp Wednesday PM Update (Arrowhead Pride)

Temperature: 77 Humidity: 46 Attendance: 78 Bob Gretz UW-RF WPI KCChiefs.com Q&A with Herm Edwards Bob Gretz detailed a couple of mental mistakes by Jamaal Charles. One was throwing the ball at a defender because he had been hit pretty hard in a minimal contact drill. The other was running out of bounds when the offense was trying to run out the clock in a 'four-minute offense'. I can forgive both of these as long as he understands what's going on in a game - the level of frustration in training camp, I would imagine, is higher than that in a game. KCChiefs.com has a schedule of a typical practice for the Chiefs. Check it out - they've got everything scheduled down to the minute. C.E. Wendler over at WPI was shocked to see different formations, fakes and bootlegs in the game against the Bears last Thursday. Do you think Derrick Johnson is strong? From UW-RF: The linebackers started their drills on the five-man sled. Linebacker Derrick Johnson was the first man up, and on the second sled, Johnson broke the pad off the metal support. His teammates cheered, but Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach Gunther Cunningham simply moved the group to the hanging dummy and said, “you can break everything we’ve got. We ain’t quitting.” I really hope we get to see the four minute offense out on the field quite often: ”(The situation was) 3:58 left, ball on the minus 19-yard line, they (the Chiefs offense) were winning the game, winning by two and the defense has three timeouts. Basically in that scenario, what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to run nine plays. And what the defense has to do is call their timeouts with the two-minute in there. It’s the first time we did it, and we learned something from it.”

What a way to kick off the Chiefs‘ 2008 season, huh? Here are my thoughts… The star of the first half was undoubtedly Brodie Croyle. People have it twisted about Croyle; we like him and are pulling for him, but we just didn’t possess the blind faith in him that some Chiefs fans do. Tonight, he [...]

I’m usually pretty wordy, but today I’ll try to keep it neat and simple. Here were my thoughts from the Chiefs’ first game against the Bears: You would have to be an idiot to think that offensive playcalling isn’t extremely important to the success of a football team. I know that’s harsh, but anyone who saw [...]
