5 Films By Dario Argento (DVD Talk)

Rent It The Movies: One of the most influential horror directors of all time and one of the few classic Italian horror directors still making movies within the genre, Dario Argento has rightfully built a rabid fan base over the decades he's been making movies. Whether it be a giallo like The Bird With The Crystal Plumage , a dark horror fantasy like Suspiria or a television project like Masters Of Horror: Pelts , his work is always worth a look even if it isn't always a masterpiece. Over the years, Anchor Bay have released a fair amount of the mans' films onto DVD, and the ones that they still hold the rights to have now been assembled in this 'steel book' boxed set collection, 5 Films By Dario Argento . Before we go any further, it should be noted that aside from the packaging, there is no exclusive content in this collection. The Tenebre and Phenomena ... Read the entire review

Filed under: News , Video Marketplace It's a holiday weekend where we're sure most of you will be out and about, enjoying the sunshine and warm Summer weather. But not all of you will. We know there's a select few (okay, about 76% of you) who will want to stay indoors and maybe rent a new movie release off the Video Marketplace . And really, that's not that bad of an idea. It's such a reasonable idea, that we've compiled a list of all the past week's new U.S. XBVM movie releases even though it isn't much of a list. There's actually only three releases this week which is sort of a bummer. But they're new new releases, so that kind of makes up for it. We'll keep you in suspense until you make it to the break, but we'll leave you with one final warning message. Do not, under any circumstances, rent this week's "Alternate Ending" movie. Stick with the original. Alternate endings only leave room for disappointment, sadness and anger.

Rent It The Movie: Michael Haneke has been sending shock waves through the international cinematic community for years. His films are confrontational, unconventional, and frequently controversial. Of all the subjects he's approached in his career, perhaps no one film in his catalog is more polarizing than his 1997 shocker Funny Games . And with his decision to remake the film shot-for-shot in 2007, a decade after the original, Haneke ensured that the film would split audiences twice over. A family goes to their summer home, only to find their neighbors are hosting a pair of young boys. One of them, Peter (Brady Corbet), stops by and asks the mother, Ann (Naomi Watts) for some eggs. The other, Paul (Michael Pitt), asks to try out some of the dad's, George (Tim Roth), golf clubs. When Ann complains about their behavior, Paul uses a golf club to break George's leg. From there, the whole f... Read the entire review
