Busy Friday afternoon, Rangers news-wise... Per the DMN blog, Hank Blalock has had surgery on his wrist, and will be out a minimum of 4 weeks. Supposedly, when Franklyn German was DFA'd to make room for Kam Loe, the Rangers would have dropped Chris Shelton instead (because Blalock was expected to be activated in a couple of days), had it not been for the fact that Frank Catalanotto's...

The Rangers have announced several moves... Kevin Millwood is activated from the d.l., and Travis Metcalf has been recalled from AAA. German Duran and Kam Loe have been optioned to AAA. Franklyn German cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Oklahoma, although he has 72 hours to decide whether to accept the outright assignment or become a free agent.

Less than 24 hours after tossing 3.2 innings of scoreless relief against the Minnesota Twins, Franklyn German is out of a job. Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Right-handed reliever Franklyn German, who threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings Tuesday, was designated for assignment Wednesday, and Kameron Loe will be available in the bullpen Wednesday. Toronto scored a run off Franklyn German in the seventh to tie it. Texas couldn't tie it in the bottom, so with two innings left it's 4-4. The wind is swirling here and blowing wrappers all over the field. Oh, and it feels like Shea Stadium out here with the planes flying nearly overhead. The wind must be forcing some interesting routes to land at DFW.

Evan Grant reports that the final spot on the 40 man roster for the new additions (Dustin Nippert, Adam Melhuse, Jamey Wright, Franklyn German) will be created by putting Brandon McCarthy on the 60 day disabled list. That means McCarthy cannot be activated until May 29, at the earliest. Color me disappointed. I was hopeful that McCarthy would be back by mid-May.

C.J. Wilson was told today that he is officially the closer. Not a stunner, but manager Ron Washington admitted for the first time that Wilson is the guy. Wilson wasn't surprised, but is glad that it's out and he can focus on the season. Franklyn German and Jamey Wright have made the team. It means Eric Hurley and Frank Francisco head to minor league camp.
