[This is a continuation of the posts in my Starting Findory series describing my experiences building my first company, Findory .] I had the wrong strategy with trying to get funding for Findory.

Findory was a personalized news site. The site launched in January 2004 and shut down November 2007. A reader first coming to Findory would see a normal front page of news, the popular and important news stories of the day. When someone read articles on the site, Findory learned what stories interested that reader and changed the news that was featured to match that reader's interests. In this way,...

Source : Geeking with Greg (subscribe)

Explore : Internet

I missed the news over my vacation that Greg Linden was shutting down Findory on November 1, just 15 days away.
Starting Findory: Hardware go boom (Geeking with Greg)

Computers go down, a lot more often than we might like. For most of Findory's four years, it ran on six servers. In that time, those servers had one drive failure, one bad memory chip, and four power supplies fail. Of these, only the two power supply failures caused outages on the site, one of one hour and one a painful eight hour outage. There were a few other short outages due to network problems...

Source : Geeking with Greg (subscribe)

Explore : Hardware, Internet

Om Malik reports this morning that Seattle's Greg Linden, the founder of the news aggregation service, Findory , is shutting down the service on November 1. Greg, an early believer in the personalization of news and info, had this to say from his personal blog . Some day, online newspapers will focus on your interests, building you your own unique, customized front page of news.

Personalized newspaper service Findory is finally closing, after remaining on life support since January when development ceased. Founder Greg Linden has now posted that the site will now be shut November 1.
