Northbrook success in Lewisham Schools Awards (leepedia lite)

Two students and a member of staff at Northbrook school were successful in winning awards in this year's Lewisham Schools Awards. The Young Mayor’s Award for Overcoming Challenges was won by Gloria Bulage, and the Most Promising Performer Award was won by Nebenzial McLean The ‘My Best Supporter’ Award was won by staff member Colin Omogbehin Our congratulations to the three prize winners!

A South London Funeral (Transpontine)

I didn't know Mark Side, the East Dulwich dad who was recently killed in a motorbike crash in Evelyn Street, Deptford. But his funeral at Lewisham crematorium last week sounds like quite an event, hailed in the Southwark News as 'one of south London's biggest funerals for a generation'. I like this SE15 floral tribute (he grew up in Peckham), apparently there was also one that said 'Fuck It'....

Saturday Jim and I set off to Kent to visit the parental units. But first we had to get the car washed, and made a return to the Polish hand wash place down in Lewisham. My favourite from last time was topless, proving I was not wrong to assume he had a fabulous body. I'm liking this trend away from automatic car washes to more old fashioned versions... Automatic = bad. Hand wash = porn. Goodness....

Yesterday I got a letter from the haematology department at Lewisham Hospital. I have an appointment with them on July 10th, whereby they'll drain me of much blood in order to prod it about in all sorts of ways and find out how it's behaving at the moment. Little treasures: #1 Equiano (Brockley Central)

Besides a bed of African plants in Telegraph Hill's lower park, sits a bust of 18th Century writer and abolitionist, Equiano . The plinth was created this year by children from Edmund Waller School, with the help of a grant from Lewisham Library.

A Picture of Health - bad news for Lewisham (andrewmilton)

The crude results of the consultation on A Picture Of Health are reported in the News Shopper. The consultation gave three options, but the most popular response was to say none of the above, given by 2,469 out of 8,374 respondents. 1.949 respondents selected by Option one, which would see Lewisham Hospital admit medical but not surgical emergencies. and no inpatient services for children....

Thought I'd give a mention to the next public meeting of the Lewisham Local History Society. Julian Watson and Neil Rhind will be talking on ' Greenwich Revealed' . The meeting will be at Methodist Church Hall, Albion Way, beginning at 7.45pm. You don't have to be a member of the Society to come to the meeting, but a donation of £1 would be appreciated.
